Danish airports

It is mandatory to undergo an extensive background check if you are to work at a Danish airport or with an airline or handle cargo, supplies, etc., to a Danish airport. This also applies to certain individuals who work with safety-critical IT systems at an airport. You can apply to the police for an extensive background check.

Read more about precisely what types of individuals are subject to the rules under 'Q&A - Who are subject to the requirement of an extensive background check?'.

It is the responsibility of the employer, the airline or the airport to ensure that the application for an extensive background check is carried out correctly if such a check is required to perform a certain job.

Further details about extensive background checks and security clearance are available in the guidelines of the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority (Trafikstyrelsen).

Q&A

Businesses

When you apply on behalf of a business, the application must be completed and signed using MitID for the business.

Note: If you sign using your personal MitID, the Permit Department (Tilladelser) cannot accept your signature as valid.

If you sign using your MitID for the business you confirm, in your capacity of employer, airport or airline, that:

  • the information in the application is correct
  • the relevant person has completed the part of the extensive background check which deals with ID and CV checks

Do not sign in case the above information is incorrect or if you disagree with the information. Instead, please contact the applicant with a view to the submission of a new application with correct information.

Private individuals

If you want to apply for an extensive background check as a private individual, if, for example, you are to take up a position at an airport or with an airline, you must log in and complete the application using your MitID. The business with which you are to be employed must sign the application using MitID for the business.

Further details about extensive background checks and security clearance are available in the guidelines of the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority.

The processing time depends on the applicant. If we need to examine the person in more detail, the processing time depends on the person, including how quickly he or she replies to our questions.

You must complete a declaration of consent if you do not have MitID. There are two types of declarations of consent that apply in two different situations:

  • If you are resident in Denmark or have been resident in Denmark in the past five years but do not have MitID, you must complete the declaration for persons resident in Denmark.
  • If you have been resident abroad for the past five years, you must complete the declaration for people resident abroad.

Yes, you/the employee may do so and in some cases, it may contribute to reducing the processing time. Please note that your/your employee's criminal record must normally be less than 30 days old.

Yes, if you are to transport weapons in an airport, you must lodge a separate application for this purpose. The application is available at politi.dk under Apply for permission for transportation and storage (only in danish).

A permission to transport weapons is a general permission while an approval of an extensive background check is solely an approval to perform functions at the relevant airport.

Please note that in connection with applications, permission/approval is granted based on various pieces of legislation. Therefore, permission/approval may be granted for one application and refused for another.
