As the calendar turned to Monday, 26 October 2020, new requirements came into force for people who want to cross the border to Denmark. The requirement does not apply to persons resident in Norway and the border regions (Schleswig-Holstein, Scania, Halland or Blekinge). At the current infection rates, the requirement does not apply at the moment to persons resident in other parts of Germany and Sweden.
In case of lack of documents
If a person who wants to enter Denmark cannot present proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before entry, the relevant person must normally expect to be refused entry as of Monday, 26 October 2020.
However, in the first few days, the new restrictions will be enforced at the discretion of the authorities, and people will be given the opportunity to adapt to the rules.
Persons resident in Denmark and/or of Danish nationality
Danish nationals and persons resident in Denmark can enter Denmark regardless of the intended purpose of their entry and without presenting proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
Persons who want to travel through Denmark
As regards transit, you are allowed to travel through Denmark if you have a worthy purpose of entering Denmark, including if you want to travel through Denmark to participate in a funeral in another country, if you are going on holiday in a country outside Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands or if you are heading for your country of residence or your country of origin.
This applies regardless of your habitual residence and your means of transport.
In those situations, you are not required to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
List updated weekly
Not all the details of the new restrictions are yet in place, but the final wording will be released within a few days.
The list of high-risk countries in the EU, the Schengen area as well as the United Kingdom is updated weekly by the SSI and the list of third countries whenever relevant, including on the basis of the list updated by the EU. Further, the requirement will apply to banned countries outside the EU and the Schengen area as well as the United Kingdom.
