Apply for permission to fly foreign flags

On 22 June 2023, the Danish Supreme Court (Højesteret) decided that it is not punishable to fly flags of foreign nations. As a result of the judgment, the Danish Ministry of Justice (Justitsministeriet) will repeal the Danish Executive Order Prohibiting the Flying of Foreign Flags (bekendtgørelse om forbud mod at benytte fremmede nationsflag) that dates back to 1915. After the summer holidays, a decision will be made as to the next steps to be taken in respect of the flag flying rules. This means that it is still allowed to fly the Ukrainian flag which has been subject to a general flag flying permission for a long period.
For the time being, the possibility to apply for permission to fly foreign flags has been suspended.
