What are war crimes?

War crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity’ is used as a collective designation for serious crimes such as homicide, torture, intentional
attacks on civilians during an armed conflict, the forced relocation of populations, systematic assaults on specific population groups etc.

 

Information about possible war crimes in Ukraine

The Danish police would like to hear from you if you have information about possible war crimes in Ukraine. Therefore, please contact the police if

 

  • you yourself are a victim of a possible war crime.
  • you have witnessed a possible war crime.
  • you are in possession of evidence of possible war crimes in Ukraine. Such evidence could be photos, videos or social media platforms for sharing material. The evidence can be photos, videos etc. that you have taken or recorded yourself or photos, videos etc. that you have received from other persons who might still be in Ukraine.
  • you know of other persons who are the victims of, who have witnessed, or have evidence of possible war crimes in Ukraine. In that case, you may encourage them to contact the Danish police. You may also pass on this flyer to the person in question.

How does the police handle the information provided by you?

Based on reports from a number of nations, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague has launched an investigation into war crimes committed in Ukraine since 21 November 2013.

 

The Danish National Police will contribute to the ICC investigation into war crimes in Ukraine in partnership with Europol and Eurojust. This includes that the police will gather and secure evidence and witness statements from Ukraine. The material will be shared with the ICC.

 

During the investigations, the Danish police will keep your information confidential. You can obtain further details by contacting the police.
