Funen Police covers an area of just over 3,500 km2 which consists of the municipalities of Assens, Faaborg-Midtfyn, Kerteminde, Langeland, Middelfart, Nordfyn, Nyborg, Odense, Svendborg, and Ærø.
Funen Police was founded 1 January 2007 as a result of a police reform of Denmark's then 54 police districts, which were reduced to 12 larger police districts.
Organisation
Chief executive of Funen Police is police director Arne Vedsted Gram, who, like the other 11 police directors, has an annual target and result plan that sets the goals for the police district. He is the head of both the police district's administration, police work and the Prosecution Service.
Funen Police has almost 800 employees of which approx. 60 works in the Prosecution Service, 620 are police officers, approx. 40 are lawyers, and approx. 140 has an administrative or academic education.
Police stations
The main police station for Funen Police is located at Hans Mules Gade in Odense and houses the police director, staff functions, emergency centre, investigation centre, patrol centre, and Prosecution Service. In addition, there is a large local police station in Svendborg with an immigration Office, and a local police station in Vollsmose, as well as a traffic department located in Nyborg.
