Apply for alcohol license

Businesses serving alcoholic drinks, including beer and wine, must have an alcohol licence. Renew or apply for an alcohol licence or apply for approval of new members of the board of directors or members of the executive board.

When you have completed one of the application forms below, you must send it to the Licensing and Permit Department (bevillings- og tilladelseskontoret) in the police district where your business is located.

Good to know

If you are self-employed and/or are in a partnership (I/S), you must as a main rule be at least 21 years old to apply for an alcohol licence. If you have completed training in the hotel and catering industry, you must be at least 18 years old. You must not be legally incapable or under guardianship.

 

As an applicant you must not:

  • Be under reconstruction or in liquidation
  • Have overdue debt to public authorities in excess of DKK 50,000 stemming from activities in the catering industry
  • Have been convicted of an offence indicating an immediate risk of abuse in connection with the business activity, see section 78(2) of the Danish Criminal Code (straffeloven)

If you run a foundation, an association or a company (ApS, A/S, etc.), the business must not have overdue debt to public authorities in excess of DKK 50,000.
The members of the executive board and the majority of the members of the board of directors must be at least 21 years old. Applicants who have completed training in the hotel and catering industry must be at least 18 years old.

Members of the executive board and the majority of the members of the board of directors must not:

  • Be legally incapable or under guardianship
  • Have overdue debt to public authorities in excess of DKK 50,000 stemming from activities in the catering industry
  • Have been convicted of an offence indicating an immediate risk of abuse in connection with the business activity, see section 78(2) of the Criminal Code

    Nor must any circumstances constituting an obstacle to the grant of a licence under section 16(1), (2) or (5) exist.
If you are not responsible for the day-to-day management yourself or if you run a foundation, an association or a company, you must apply for approval of a manager.

Newly established businesses or businesses that want to make significant changes to their operating setup or size are required to provide a detailed project accounting for the layout and operating principles.

If you want your business to stay open outside normal opening hours, this must appear from your application.
