Q&A
If you do not have MitID, you must send the information that we need to process your notification along with a receipt for the payment of the required fee by letter. See contact details.
Please be aware that the processing time will be considerably longer if you choose to send your notification by letter. The reasons are that sending the notification by letter increases the risk of errors, that we must spend more time on manually entering your data in the system and that it typically takes longer to send it by letter.
It is free of charge to report possession of a shotgun.
Once you have submitted the online form, you will receive a receipt through Digital Post. If we need any further information, we will contact you in connection with the case processing.
When the case processing is complete, you will receive a receipt with the file number of your notification of the weapon through Digital Post. Please note that you are free to use your smooth-bore shotgun even though the case processing has not yet been completed.
You must apply for permission to import the weapon into Denmark. This is called an import licence. Subsequently you must submit a notification of your purchase of the weapon within 8 days of your receipt of the weapon.
More information is available on our website under import/export of weapons.
If you have a hunting licence, you can use your shotgun for hunting purposes. If you want to practice your hunting skills, you may do so on a clay pigeon shooting range. If you are a member of a rifle club offering clay pigeon shooting, you may also use your shotgun there.
If you have purchased your shotgun on the basis of a weapon authorisation, you can only use the weapon at clay pigeon shooting ranges.
The registration of a shotgun does not expire and does not have to be renewed.
If you have purchased the shotgun on the basis of a hunting licence, you can possess the weapon as long as you are eligible for a hunting licence. If the notification was made on the basis of a weapon authorisation, you can possess the weapon as long as the authorisation is valid.
Irrespective of the basis on which the notification was made, you may lawfully possess the weapon if you are either eligible for a hunting licence or you have a weapon authorisation from a rifle or hunting club.
